Deanna Afremov
"“A thorough assessment is the compass that guides an individual toward lasting recovery; understanding where you are is the first step to moving forward.” — Dr. Emily Johnson, Addiction Medicine Specialist"
My name is Deanna. As a therapist, my goal is to create a nonjudgmental and welcoming environment where clients feel empowered as the experts of their own lives. I believe life presents us with unique challenges, and by developing an effective set of coping skills, we can enhance our overall well-being.I view therapy as a collaborative process, with my role being to support clients on their unique paths to wellness.
I am a graduate student at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, pursuing a Master’s in Counseling and Psychological Services, and a Graduate Certificate in Addiction Studies. My academic training has an emphasis in addiction treatment, trauma-informed care, culturally responsive therapy, and the application of evidence-based therapeutic approaches. Before my internship, I was part of the administrative team at a dual diagnosis treatment program, where I gained valuable insight into mental health and substance use treatment. My hope is with my unique work experiences and background I can create a space where you feel supported and heard as we work towards meaningful change.
I work with ages 10+, with presenting problems such as anxiety, symptoms of depression, major life transitions, OCD, co-occurring disorders and addiction, low self esteem, perfectionism, performance related concerns and trauma symptoms.
In my free time, I enjoy being outdoors, going on walks, cooking, and spending time with my family and friends.
